Britons `gamble with their financial futures`

Many Britons are gamblers regarding the future of their finances, according to new research.

According to the spring edition of National Savings & Investments` (NS&I) Quarterly Savings Survey, more than half of people in the UK do not have a plan for their financial future.

A total of one-third say they do not worry about the future because they expect to earn a higher salary, anticipate that they will be able to borrow what they need or assume they will receive a financial windfall or inheritance.

And 15 per cent of Britons say they do not ever think about their finances at all.

Dax Harkins, senior savings strategist at NS&I, said: "It`s a real concern that such a high percentage of people haven`t made a financial plan for their future and even more worrying that a significant number are basing their financial security on their future earnings potential.

"There`s never any guarantee that people will earn more as they get older, so it`s really important that people start their financial planning and start saving as early as possible."

NS&I offers a range of savings products.
