17 million British adults neglecting their finances
12 May 2011
The second annual Scottish Widows `Priorities of Life Index` has revealed that 17 million (35% of) British adults admit to `neglecting their finances`.
21% of these adults said they couldn`t focus on their finances as much as they would like to because they had too much debt to feel `financially secure`, while 32% `are not paid enough` and 25% do their best not to think about money in their everyday lives.
Meanwhile, 19 million people said they aren`t focusing on their savings as much as they would like to. 11 million of these said it`s because they simply can`t afford to put any more money towards their savings, and six million are only focusing on their `short-term` finances at present.
Iain McGowan, savings expert for Scottish Widows, said: "We know money is tight for many people at the moment, but spending a bit more time on their finances instead of ignoring the problems can only serve to make them feel more financially secure in the future."
