Energy Debt Advice service announced
16 March 2011
With so many households in debt to their energy supplier, one of the `big six` energy suppliers, EDF Energy, has decided to fund a new Energy Debt Advice service.
It`s a new nationwide partnership with Citizens Advice, offering customers access to free, independent advice on dealing with household debts - not just energy debts.
After all, the two organisations understand very well that plenty of people who struggle with their energy bills are dealing with other debts as well.
Among other things, the energy company will meet the staffing costs of the Energy Debt Advice contact centre, which includes `two debt caseworkers, one supervisor/trainer, a part-time administration assistant and a team of ten full-time equivalent volunteers`.
"EDF Energy has worked with Citizens Advice for a number of years, beginning with funding the first energy advice development post at the Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau. We are delighted to develop this successful relationship further by financing the Energy Debt Advice service and the new positions it requires, so we can offer our customers direct support from the organisation," said Martin Lawrence, Managing Director, Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply, EDF Energy.
