5% of students think they`ll leave university with no debt
Around 71% of the students questioned hadn`t considered how they will repay the debts they accumulate while at university, while 62% said they thought debt repayments would be `small and unnoticeable`.
Almost one third also admitted they thought their degree would not be relevant to getting a job, and they didn`t think they would go into a job earning the £15,000 required to `trigger student loan repayments`.
Despite the high levels of debt many students take on throughout their university life, 26% said they didn`t look into the different loans available to them, meaning they could be missing out on the best deals.
The research also found that 92% of students had an interest-free overdraft and 62% also had a credit card.
Co-founder of Studentgems.com, Sue Harrison, said: "University is an expensive time, however, students should always consider the future, and what impact the loans are going to have on their life after university."
