Rising tuition fees could increase student debt
John Holman, director of the National Science Learning Centre, said: "It`s very difficult to see how a future of excellence throughout the university system can be maintained unless at some point there`s a more economic approach to university fees."
This comes at a time when, according to research by the university guide Push, students are expected to graduate with debts of around £23,000.
Commenting on news that a Conservative government might raise the cap on tuition fees, Wes Streeting, President of the National Union of Students, said: "NUS believes that a university education should be free at the point of use, with graduates giving back to the system according to how much they earn. Our proposals would give universities double the amount of funding they currently receive, while allowing people to go to university without the fear of debt."
