High demand for free debt advice

Redbridge, London, would be one of the `worst-affected boroughs in the capital` if free debt advice wasn`t available, thisislocallondon.co.uk reports.

People seek free debt advice when they are finding their finances difficult to manage. Today`s economic problems have caused a rise in the number of people needing help with their finances, and this means many people are now waiting up to seven weeks for debt advice.

A local resident said: "It [her family`s debt situation] causes a lot of stress on us as a family and we are unable to get an appointment […] We`ve tried to get an appointment with every advice centre going but they are all swamped."

A debt adviser for Gregory Pennington commented: "People in need of debt advice should not be deterred by this. If they continue looking, they should be able to find a debt advice organisation that`s able to talk to them straight away, even if they`re only available outside office hours - in the evening or at the weekend."
