Food price inflation falls
The BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index for April showed a 0.3% monthly fall in the average price of food, while non-food items showed a 0.5% fall.
Non-food items were 1.9% cheaper than in April 2008, although food was still 7.9% more expensive.
A spokesperson for debt management company Gregory Pennington said: "This is one of a number of studies that attempt to calculate whether costs are rising or falling for consumers, although in reality each person`s situation is different.
"People should be careful to ensure that they can afford any rises in their own costs, as failing to budget properly could lead to financial difficulties and potential debt problems later on."
