Free therapy to cope with unemployment & debt problems
Jobcentres, doctors` surgeries and a new NHS Direct hotline will refer people to psychotherapists. Psychotherapy centres are to be established in every primary care trust (PCT) by the end of 2010.
PCTs will be instructed to use the £80 million saved through the VAT cut to commission new debt advice services, along with family counselling services.
"We are already seeing increasing numbers of distressed people contacting our advice service with fears that employers may target them for redundancy, with problems over home and debt-protection policies excluding mental health problems, and frustration that the jobs market is slamming doors in their faces," said Paul Corry, director of public affairs at mental health charity Rethink.
