£30 billion of secret debt
A CreditExpert.co.uk poll has indicated that although 89% may agree on the importance of financial honesty in a relationship, 19% of Britons admit to keeping debt from their partner - and 10% of people currently in a relationship admit that they have a `secret` bank account that they keep from their partner.
13% admit they don`t tell their partner much they owe on credit cards and store cards, and 15% apparently don`t tell their partner about their bonus payments - or their salary.
Couples in London seem to be the most secretive about their finances, with 29% keeping their debt levels secret from their partner and 24% not sharing information about their salary and bonuses.
The most common reasons for hiding elements of their finances were embarrassment and shame - but 18% said they simply didn`t want their partner to know everything about their finances.
