Rising household bills `leaving people vulnerable to debt`
Produced by YouGov on behalf of trade association R3, the statistics indicate that 21 per cent of households are now finding it a constant struggle to keep up with the payment of bills.
It was also found that over a third (34 per cent) of people questioned have a credit card which they cannot pay off in full each month.
"People`s attitude to debt has softened to an alarming degree and we are not surprised that people are borrowing with no idea of how to repay," stated R3 president Nick O`Reilly.
He added that less than half of those in "serious financial difficulties" have sought professional advice.
According to a recent BBC report, the Samaritans has seen a 25 per cent rise in calls from consumers concerned about debt compared to the number it received last year.
